The Fashion Files: DIY Carwash Crop Top

I got a little scissor happy with this DKNY dress that was given to me; it was a maxi dress but a little too short for me. My mission was to hold onto it, but make it more my style. I absolutely love creating and experimenting with fashion, so it was so much fun seeing (and wearing) the end result. Keep reading for super simple instructions on how to create your own DIY Carwash Crop Top.

You’ll Need…

  • A pair of scissors
  • A dress (Make sure that the material is a knit instead of a woven. Woven fabrics tend to fray when cut, whereas knits will simply roll up. The length of the dress is up to you… if you want long strips, choose a maxi dress.)

The Process…

This is fairly easy and fun! All you need to do is cut! I prefer for my fringe/strips to measure the width of my index finger, but it’s up to you how wide and long you want your strips to be. Once you’re finished cutting the strips all the way around, you’re ready to rock your new DIY creation!

Also…

You don’t have to get a dress that looks exactly like mine. Try this DIY project on a t-shirt or tunic; you can spice up your look with a funky sash or belt if you want it more fitted around the waist area.
